Lab

What we build.

Free software and open electronics, research, and systems built for companies and public bodies. Every project occupies a place in the same chain: capturing the content, editing it, publishing it and disseminating it. The applications we offer as products live under Applications.

What belongs here

We do not take on just any commission. A project enters the lab when it meets all three conditions; it is the reason we build field electronics and do not build anybody’s internal system.

  1. 01

There is a body of content that, without us, stays unpublished, scattered or unreadable.

  2. 02

The result can be consulted from outside: it is not an internal tool only the client ever sees.

  3. 03

It comes out open — a free licence, documented hardware, or data in open formats. When that is not possible, we say why.

The field instruments are built from donated phones

Any brand, as long as it powers on and has Wi-Fi. They go to the bioacoustic stations and to the distributed computing testbed.
