A technology publishing house

We publish research: the site, the data, the instrument and the book.

A book, an environmental case file, the song of a species. We turn scattered research into something you can consult, cite and reuse.

Donate your old phone: it becomes a scientific instrument

Any brand, as long as it works and has Wi-Fi. It goes to the bioacoustics network and to OpenRackPhone’s distributed computing.

Four moments, one craft

We do not start where the research ends. We come in earlier: at the instrument that records, at the archive nobody has sorted, at the manuscript with no shape yet. And we stay past publication, once the work is out there and has to be kept alive.

  1. 01

    Capture

We design the instrument when it does not exist: field sensors, forms, integrations with data sources. If the content has no shape yet, it starts here.

  2. 02

    Edit

Copy-editing, translation, layout, document structure. The publishing craft of always, applied to case files and datasets too.

  3. 03

    Publish

Microsites, web applications, open APIs, printed and electronic books. Every piece of work goes out through the medium that suits it.

  4. 04

    Disseminate

ISBN and legal deposit, accessibility, open data, events. Publishing is not the end: the end is someone reading it and being able to cite it.

Two lines of work, one standard

We work with people who have something to say and no way to publish it. Authors, research groups, environmental agencies, public bodies. The content changes; the craft does not.

Book publishing

We are a registered publishing house. We handle the ISBN with the Cámara Colombiana del Libro, the legal deposit and the whole process of editing, design and printing. We also represent authors and organise launches, workshops and panel discussions.

Publishing services →

Outreach systems

Research microsites, document management, open data publishing and field instrumentation. Free software when the project allows it; a service we operate when that makes more sense. Every card states which is which.

What we have published

Not every project is a book. These are the ones that best explain what we do.

Bioacoustics

Species outreach

Open hardware to record wildlife in the field, with schematics, BOM and gerbers published. We go all the way back to where the data comes from: what had no written form acquires one.

OrpycaMCP

Document management

A free tool to manage, version and search large bodies of documents. Published under AGPL-3.0, with an open repository.

GrafPin

Archive and open data

Ephemeral heritage documented before it is lost: a map, a timeline for each wall, and a public API that exposes the archive in open formats.

appAves

Field instrumentation

A reused phone turned into an autonomous monitoring station, identifying species on the device itself and sending nothing to the cloud.

Under construction

The application that gave us our name

Before the publishing house there was the idea of a place where anyone could publish what they write, be it one sentence or a book. We are still building it: it cannot be used yet, and we are not promising a date.

About the project

Got something unpublished?

A manuscript, a research archive, a dataset only you ever look at. Tell us what it is and we will come back with a concrete proposal: what gets published, in what medium and on what terms.
