The application
Excribe: where it all started.
Before the publishing house there was the idea of an application for writers: a free space to publish texts of any length —a short story, an essay, a graphic novel, manga— and find readers. It is the project the company is named after, and it is already online.
Where it stands
The application is already in production: you can create an account, write, publish and comment today at excribe.co. It is still in final fixes, so the catalogue is still growing and some features —translation, events, news, selling works— are on the way and will arrive without breaking what is already published.
If you would rather we let you know about what is new instead of going in now, leave us your email and we will note it down. We will not use it for anything else.
What you can do today
This is already running in production; it is not a promise.
Editor with autosave
Writing in the browser with the draft saved automatically; publishing creates a fixed version of the text, without overwriting what is already out there.
Publishing with audience control
Each text can be public, stay private, or be shared through an unlisted link —with no need for social networks or a third-party account.
Catalogue and discovery
A public listing of works filterable by length and by genre, so a reader can find something without going through the profile of an author they already know.
Comments the author approves
A reader comments, but the comment only becomes visible if the author approves it —moderation does not depend on an outside team.
Personal library and followed authors
Save a work to read later and follow an author to hear about what they publish next.
Notifications
The author is notified when someone leaves a comment awaiting approval on one of their texts.
What is on the way
Already designed and at various stages of building or review —including the legal review of the terms that enable some of these pieces— but not usable yet.
- AI-assisted copy-editing and spelling — it corrects; it does not generate or replace authorship.
- Graphic novels as PDF, for those who tell stories through drawing and need the page read in order.
- Direct translation into several languages, and translation on demand for the rest.
- A board of literary events and curated community news.
- Distribution and sales licences declared by the author, and selling works — today routed through the publishing house.
The thinking behind how we build it
What follows is not a feature list: these are the underlying decisions that explain what kind of platform this is and where it is going.
Publishing without asking permission
A place where an author puts what they write into circulation —from a single sentence to a book— without depending on someone selecting it first.
Any length, any genre
Texts are classified by narrative length (sentence, poem, short story, novel…) and by genre, in two independent catalogues that coexist.
The name is the writer’s call
Signing with your own name, with a pen name or anonymously is the author’s decision, and it is built into the profile editor.
The work stays its author’s
Designed on the Colombian copyright framework: ownership of each work and its terms of use are declared by whoever publishes it.
Who it is for
People who write
Someone with texts saved away and nowhere to put them into circulation: loose stories, a serialised series, a graphic novel in progress.
People who draw and tell stories
Comic and manga authors, for whom the page matters as much as the text and who need it read in the right order —graphic novels as PDF is one of the pieces still on the way.
People who read
The reader looking for work that has not been through a publisher yet, and who wants to find it sorted by length and by genre.
An application, not a section of this site
Excribe is a product with a life cycle of its own: it lives in its own repository and at its own address, excribe.co, separate from this site. This page tells you what it is and where it stands.
Selling works, while the application builds its own way of doing it, is routed through the publishing house: if you have a finished work, we can publish it under our imprint —ISBN, legal deposit, editing and printing.
